Fit control
A size chart is useful only when it tells production how the garment should fit, where to measure it, and what variation is acceptable.

Measurements should match the intended fit. Oversized hoodies, cropped tees, relaxed sweatpants, slim polos, and boxy streetwear pieces need different size logic.
A production tolerance gives the factory and buyer a practical range for acceptable variation. It should be clear before bulk production starts.
Sample feedback should say which measurements are approved, which need change, and whether the next sample or bulk production should follow revised specs.
Spec planning
The exact measurement list changes by garment. Tops, bottoms, sets, jackets, and branding placements each need their own checks.
Chest width, body length, shoulder, sleeve length, armhole, hem, cuff, neck opening, hood size, and rib details where relevant.
The garment looks close in photos but fits too short, too narrow, too wide, or inconsistent across sizes.
Waist relaxed and stretched, hip, rise, inseam, outseam, thigh, knee, leg opening, cuff, waistband height, and pocket placement.
Joggers or sweatpants feel wrong because rise, thigh, cuff, or waistband measurements were not controlled.
Measure tops and bottoms separately, then check how the hoodie, sweatshirt, jacket, jogger, or sweatpant fits together as a set.
The set looks unbalanced because one piece is oversized and the other follows a different fit standard.
Chest, sweep, body length, shoulder, sleeve, armhole, collar, cuff, pocket placement, placket, and lining or hardware positions.
Construction details move or pull because the jacket measurements do not match the fabric, lining, or hardware plan.
Print size, embroidery placement, patch position, neck label, care label, hang tag position, and distance from seams or hems.
Decoration placement looks inconsistent across sizes or interferes with seams, pockets, rib, or garment balance.
Approval flow
Vague fit feedback is hard to produce from. Good approval notes connect what changed, why it changed, and which measurement or placement should be followed.
Better brief
Send enough detail for the production team to understand the intended fit, not just the garment category.

Use these questions to turn sizing from guesswork into a production-ready approval process.
A full size chart helps, but it is not always required for the first conversation. At minimum, send the product type, target fit, reference images, one base size or garment sample, fabric direction, and any measurement details you already know.
A point of measure is a specific place on the garment where a measurement is taken, such as chest width, body length, sleeve length, waist, inseam, rise, or leg opening. Clear points of measure reduce confusion during sampling and QC.
Tolerance is the acceptable range of variation around a measurement. Custom apparel is physical production, so small variation can happen. The buyer and manufacturer should agree what is acceptable before bulk production.
The sample should be measured and reviewed before approval. If fit or measurements need changes, the change notes should become part of the production record before bulk starts.
